Wave or Pleated Curtains?

6 August 2024

Choosing the right curtains can make all the difference in your home. If you’re stuck between wave curtains and pleated curtains, don’t worry—you’re not alone! In this guide, we’ll break down the differences in a simple way so you can find the style that’s perfect for your space.

Wave curtains

A wave curtain will give you a very beautiful, modern and sophisticated expression. The even spacing of the waves is most easily achieved with a curtain track with gliders attached to a cord. When you pull out the curtain, the cord maintains an even distance between the waves. The curtain is easily mounted to the gliders with a small hook on the back of the curtain. If you choose to mount your wave curtains on a rod instead, you get a bit more classic expression. The curtain is then hung on the loop attached to the curtain ring. Wave curtains generally require more fabric than a pleated curtain and also need more space due to the depth of the waves. Follow our measurement guide to easily calculate how wide curtains you need for your space.

The correct type of hook, depending on your desired choice of mounting the curtain, is already placed at the right distance when your curtain is delivered to you. The hooks are always included in the price when you buy curtains from Veolin.

Pleated curtains

Pleated tape curtains are a perfect choice if you want a more classic look and can be hung on both a curtain track or a curtain rod. The pleats are created by a curtain hook that attaches to the tape on the back of the curtain's top edge and pulls the fabric into even pleats. If you have a track that is attached to the ceiling or wall, a low-profile curtain hook is used. This raises the top edge of the curtain and hides the curtain track.

If you have a curtain rod, a high-profile hook is used instead, making the curtain hang just below the curtain rings.

Different looks

Depending on the look you want to create, you can choose curtains that are floating or trailing. A floating curtain creates an airy impression, allowing the curtain's natural drape to fall beautifully. They are also easier to keep clean as they float just above the floor.

A trailing curtain, on the other hand, can give a more serene impression and is suitable, for example, in a bedroom where more textiles naturally occur, creating a relaxed environment. A trailing curtain is also a good choice if you live in an older house where the floors are often uneven, and there is a risk of the curtains appearing different lengths. Therefore, we always recommend measuring in several places from the floor to the hanging device, regardless of the style you choose, to achieve a great result.

For wave curtains, we recommend floating curtains to ensure the characteristic waves hang evenly from ceiling to floor. Pleated curtains, however, which are the most common type of curtain, can be either floating or trailing. Check out our image gallery for inspiration.
